Renegade Craft Fair : Dan Siegel

Danmade is the name this Burlington, Vermont potter gives his workshop. Came across his booth at the Renegade Craft Fair that was held in Brooklyn this past weekend. It was my first time attending the fair, which has gotten a lot of publicity as a kind of standard-bearer for the so-called Handmade Revolution. It had its fair share of cool stuff, but was less representative of potters than of totebag makers, by a wide margin. Dan makes functional, electric-fired stoneware, and he sells on etsy. I liked the chunky drawing style on his mugs and teapots, for which he does an oxide-laden wax resist that leaves a rust-red colored line as well as the raw-clay texture that is so dear to us here at the dojo. His shapes were fun, and his drawings were engaging without being terminally hip.
