Peter Macapia @ Bridge Gallery

The name of this show is "Swarm", and the Bridge Gallery is a modest space at 98 Orchard St. on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The artist is the founder of labDORA, the Design Office for Research and Architecture. He seems to have studied and taught architecture nearly everywhere. His wide-ranging concerns include geometry and computational processes, and this show involves four types of objects: laser printed images, simple and more complex laser-cut forms made from black or off-white paper, which hang in a swarming arrangement from above, and some extremely complex cutout forms ( more like systems of forms, really ), which inhabit spaces between block-like shapes suggestive of densely-packed buildings and hinting at a theoretical future architectural manifestation of these ideas. This gallery is open 7 days a week.

Dark Brown Clay

Here is a little roundup of things using the dark brown clay that has interested me lately, and I think I'm fairly pleased with the partial glazing. The idea of applying the added-on forms to the outsides of mugs was a bit of an afterthought, but turned out to be a lot of fun. I haven't put any of them to the usage test yet, but my thinking is that they might be nice for people who are a little compulsive about holding & feeling their mugs while they drink from them ( you know who you are ). The raw clay makes for a nice tactile experience.
